May 2014 Update – Growing Cucumbers
Thanks to the guidance and dedication from long term volunteer, Mr Ernest, the CLS Agricultural project is moving ahead in leaps and bounds, but always not without some hurdles along the way.
Being the wet season in Cambodia, we have had to change the daily schedule for the workers and it is pleasing that all come regularly. They are always very hard working and are willing to do other jobs when we need help from them and get involved with CLS.
In May we used all the compost to grow cucumbers and morning glory. These are growing well, waiting for harvest in June, but some cucumbers were destroyed by insects. We have not sprayed insect killer yet and aim to use organic methods to control this.
Chumkriel Language School (CLS) would like to congratulate two of its students on their outstanding academic achievements! Thin Sokean and Chea Samnang are long time CLS students (of eight years), who were awarded CLS Scholarships in 2006. Since then they have applied themselves throughout their studies, and just recently achieved considerably high scores in Grade 12 Mathematics. Sokean achieved the highest score within Kampot City and Samnang achieved the fourth highest. Great work on your achievements! CLS would also like to thank United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA) for their continued support of the CLS Scholarship Project over the past two years, without which such projects would not be possible.
